The UK-first pitch
Most software in this category comes to Britain from New Zealand, Australia or North America, with UK features retrofitted. Powered Now is built by a British company for UK trade businesses, and the difference shows where it matters most: tax. Making Tax Digital compliance is on the £28 entry plan, and from the £32 Professional tier you can submit VAT returns directly, giving one system from quote to VAT return.
For a VAT-registered sole trader, that's the whole pitch in one sentence: the quarterly VAT scramble happens inside the tool that already holds every invoice.

How it measures up
Ratings at this evidence level are tied to checkable facts. Where we can't verify something without hands-on use, it says unverified rather than guessing. Numeric scores publish only after hands-on testing: how we test.

Strengths and weaknesses
Strengths
- MTD compliance on the cheapest plan; VAT returns submitted from inside the app on Professional
- Lowest entry price of the per-user options we assessed (£28/user/month ex VAT)
- Free setup and training on every plan, and a 14-day trial with no card
- Unlimited quotes, invoices and contacts from the base tier
- British vendor building for UK trade workflows first, not as a localisation afterthought
Weaknesses
- Slimmer published integration ecosystem than the international rivals (Xero arrives at Professional; no Sage/QuickBooks on the published list)
- The strongest automation (auto-chasing, customer portal, drag-and-drop scheduling) sits on the top £40 tier
- Less third-party user evidence in circulation than Tradify or ServiceM8, with fewer independent accounts to weigh
Pricing and what each tier buys
Three plans, per user per month, ex VAT (re-checked 19 August 2026, unchanged since 29 July 2026): Business at £28, with unlimited quotes, invoices and contacts, expense tracking, MTD compliance, supplier invoices, project management and job sheets. Professional at £32, which adds digital forms and certificates, unlimited text/email, VAT return submission, Xero integration, team management and staff location/time tracking. Premium at £40, which adds the customer portal, automatic quote and invoice chasing, drag-and-drop scheduling, AI text and sketching.
Annual billing effectively gives two months free, and every plan includes free setup and training. The published price list also says the software works across PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad and Android phones and tablets, but we have not yet tested that cross-device experience ourselves.
Where it gives ground
The published integration list is the clearest gap: Xero support starts at Professional, and Sage and QuickBooks users won't find their platform on the pricing page's feature lists at all, whereas Tradify ships all three from its entry tier. If your accountant lives in Sage, that's your first trial question.
There's also simply less independent user evidence in circulation than for Tradify or ServiceM8. That's not a criticism of the product, which is a smaller vendor, but it means more of the weight of this assessment rests on the vendor's own documentation, which is exactly why the evidence label on this page says what it says.
What we haven't verified yet
Desk assessment: pricing and plan contents were rechecked on Powered Now's own pricing page on 19 August 2026 (unchanged since 29 July 2026), with MTD and team-role claims cross-checked against its help centre. We have not yet run the trial, submitted a test VAT return, checked certificate availability or used the mobile apps on a job, and this review will not carry a score until we have.
Watch out for
If a specific gas/electrical certificate matters to you, confirm it exists in their forms library during the trial. We haven't verified individual certificate types.
Per-user pricing has the same team-size maths as Tradify: cheap solo, adds up across a crew.
Prices re-checked 19 August 2026 (unchanged since 29 July 2026) ex VAT on Powered Now's pricing page, so reconfirm before subscribing.
Alternatives worth knowing
Tradify
You need Sage or QuickBooks integration from day one, or want the larger ecosystem and user community.
ServiceM8
You run an Apple-equipped team with more staff than jobs, where per-job pricing will likely beat any per-user tool.

Final word · BV-R-001
If you're VAT-registered and British-built matters to you, Powered Now earns its shortlist place on the official-source information alone: the lowest entry price of the per-user tools we assessed, MTD from the bottom tier, and VAT returns from £32. Check your accounting platform and your certificates on the free trial, since those are the two places it could lose you.
